Illustration for the weekly Plus magazine cover, attached to the economic newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, about how to invest liquid assets.

As illustrator I often work with newspapers and magazines. Over the course of two decades of profession I collaborated with almost all the italian publishers and some of the most important foreign ones.

Among these, the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore has many times represented the most stimulating client, where the challenge that the illustrator is called to face is, time to time, to lighten pages with economic contents not immediately assimilable and with important technical topics, such as those typical of the Economy.

In this case, with Adriano Attus, the art director of the magazine, we tried to find a way to represent with a funny and clever image the main topic introduced on the cover of the weekly magazine, where the reader was asked what to do with the liquid assets in these times of economic uncertainty.

The idea I proposed was to use liquidity as main element of the illustration making it to blend all the other topics raised by the column, therefore representing the investor as a diver was an almost natural choice to me.

After an initial draft in which the investor/diver was standing, following Adriano's suggestion, we instead went to represent our investor in a floating situation, almost a suspension in his liquidity.

My choice to use a dark blue outline on the drawing (instead of the usual black) with thick strokes, which I frequently use with Il Sole 24 Ore, allowed us to lighten the economic topic even more by playing with the boldness of the titles.
